Sentrx Announces Partnership with Thomson Scientific
Drug Safety Firm Will Incorporate Leading-Edge Literature Search Capabilities into Service Offerings
|
Little Falls, NJ - April 11, 2005 - Sentrx, the leading provider of technology-enabled
services and solutions for global drug safety, announced today that it has signed an agreement with Thomson
Scientific's Custom Information ServicesSM group, a business of The Thomson Corporation, to deliver customized
literature searches for adverse events. Sentrx will offer these capabilities as part of its Value-Added
Services.
Regulatory authorities, including the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Agency for the
Evaluation of Medicinal Products (EMEA), require biopharmaceutical and medical device companies to search
scientific and medical publications on a regular basis for any mention of adverse events associated with their
marketed products. If one is found, the case must be investigated and reported to the appropriate agencies.
The process is time-consuming and requires the skills of information specialists and healthcare professionals.
Thomson Scientific offers the most thorough and expedient method for literature review in the industry.
Custom Information Services analyzes over 10,800 journals in the Thomson Scientific database using
client-specific profiles, which contain information regarding a company's products, therapeutic areas
and other points of interest. Custom Information Service staff evaluate the initial results and identify
relevant articles based on the company's search criteria. An expert staff of information scientists then
index and prepare customized abstracts or annotations to a company's specifications. Custom Information
Services delivers the finished product in whatever format is necessary for upload into any proprietary
database, including physician or healthcare professional websites.
"Sentrx strives to optimize drug safety operations, and we have found that literature review is often
performed inefficiently in the pharmaceutical industry," said Joseph Albano, Chief Executive Officer of
Sentrx. "Our partnership with Thomson Scientific helps us deliver best-of-breed processes and technology
to our clients for an important practice in adverse event monitoring and reporting."
"Pharmacovigilance and safety groups appreciate the value that CIS brings to literature review," said Angus
Metcalfe, Vice President for Pharma Chem Sales, Thomson Scientific. "We are pleased to expand our offerings
to these clients to include the processing of adverse event cases identified during research related to their
products."
