Database Administrator
Responsibilities:
- Direct Report to the Senior Director of Safety Systems, Technology Services
- Manage resources to evolve Logical & physical database design
- Manage according to SDLC Software installation and upgrades
- Identify and remediate Production Application issues, Database performance tuning, and resolution of database problems
- Active participation in the development of application interfaces
- Planning of upgrades, migrations and new installations
- Installing and testing new versions of the database management system (DBMS)
- Install and test Oracle upgrades & patches
- Creation and maintenance of Oracle instances
- Database performance tuning
- Resolution of database problems
- Writing database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata)
- Controlling Oracle access permissions and privileges
- Developing, managing and testing back-up and recovery plans
- Ensuring that storage, archiving, back-up and recovery procedures are functioning correctly
- Capacity planning
- Communication regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security
- Develop database utilities and automated reporting
- Create shell scripts for task automation
- Monitor systems and platforms for availability
- Evaluate and recommend new database technologies
- Responsible for ensuring availability and performance of the databases that support the system
- Participates in quality assessment reviews and audits, as required
Requirements:
- 4 years of college education in Computer Science ore related discipline or equivalent experience and 6+ years working experience with regulated applications
- Demonstrated knowledge of:
- ORACLE database Server
- Logical and physical database design
- Oracle Software installation and upgrades
- Creation and maintenance of Oracle instances
- Database performance tuning
- Resolution of database problems
- Software Development Lifecycles
- Independent problem solving skills & self-direction required
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical industry preferred
